Hey. It’s me.
Your marketing plan.
Can I come out, please? It’s been so lonely here in your desk drawer. I’m covered in dust. Just filthy. My best friend is a spider who won’t even talk to me. You should know she’s laid a few eggs on my face.
That’s not even the worst part.
I read myself a lot (I’m the only reading material in here after all), and it’s clear from the conversations I’m hearing out there that you have forgotten all about me.
And that hurts.
DON’T YOU REMEMBER THE WAY I DESCRIBE YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE?
You think it’s changed. Yes, markets evolve over time, but you were pretty sure when you wrote me that your core target audience needed to remain at the center of your long-term strategy. That’s what you built your brand around.
Do you even know who you’re going after anymore? Hard to tell.
HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN THE GOALS WE SET TOGETHER?
Those were the glory days, when we used to dream about the future. Now the urgent day-to-day stuff gets in the way of what’s important: the Big Plan.
You’re not even sure why you do it most days. (The sound of you banging your head on the desk is DEAFENING, by the way. Please stop.)
WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR BRAND?
Just look at all these beautifully organized style guidelines! We used these fonts, colors and talking points to develop some awesome marketing materials.
Those brochures are snoring in the drawer below me.
We knew exactly who we were going to reach, how and when. We were going to be consistent in our look and in our message.
That’s not what I’m hearing up there. It’s like you have a new idea every week. Our colors don’t match anymore. We have three slogans we use interchangeably. The old logo still shows up sometimes.
WOULD YOU PLEASE GET SOME HELP?
Take me out of the drawer and show me to Farmhouse Creative. They’ll take a look at what you’ve been up to and let us know where we got off track.
I don’t mean to be harsh.
You’re doing a great job, really. The day-to-day business stuff is humming along. It’s the big picture stuff that needs a little fine tuning, that’s all. Sometimes you just need a little help figuring out how to get back on the straight and narrow.
But first, get me out of here.
I think the eggs are hatching…
