Getting Back to Business

Relaxing at the lake. Hitting the pool. Grilling in the backyard. Taking a road trip. You’ve squeezed the last bit of fun out of summer and now it’s time to get back to business. But it’s not always easy to make that mental change. Here are some tips on how to shift gears and get back on track with your business and marketing plans.

Prioritize
You may have spent the summer swimming in the pool and now you might be swimming in projects that have to be completed. Review everything you need to accomplish and then prioritize it. Banging out some simple tasks can be a great motivator and help you deal with the bigger jobs that need more time and attention.

Don’t Get Lost in Your Inbox
We all get email. Sometimes tons of it, and it’s easy to fall behind, especially when you’ve been on vacation or away from the office for a while. But don’t let the messages overwhelm you. Carve out some time in the morning or afternoon to focus on the mail.

Declutter Your Work Space
There’s an old saying: “A creative mess is better than tidy idleness.” It can be true, but oftentimes a messy desk or workspace is distracting and can lead to being unproductive. You don’t need to wait for spring to do some cleaning. Getting organized will help you focus on what’s important: building your business.

Review Your Goals
Did you make a list of things you wanted to accomplish in 2018? Are you on track? Do you need to adjust anything? Rededicating yourself to achieving what you want will keep you engaged and energized about your business.

Update Your Website
You may not have done much to your website over the summer. If that’s the case, you’ll want to review your site to see what’s out of date and what needs to be updated. It’s easy to neglect your website (especially if you have a zillion things on your to-do list), but it’s one of your most important selling tools. Keep it current with updated promotions, new blog posts and news about your company.

Connect with Your Customers
Your customers were most likely enjoying the summer just like you and now that they’re settling back into school and work routines, you can grab their attention with targeted posts on social media, a boosted ad on Facebook, a fall special, coupons or other incentives.

Plan for the Holidays
The fall holiday season is swiftly approaching, with Thanksgiving, Halloween, and Christmas just around the corner, so you’ll want to start planning your marketing schedule. You can run a holiday-themed promotion or schedule your Cyber Monday sales. You can also write and pre-schedule your email marketing, social media, and blog posts now. That way, you’ll be less stressed during the holidays.

While you’re in planning mode, you might want to think about next year’s vacation. Summer will be here before you know it.
